Castle Dargan Mens Golf Club Notes – 22nd May 2017
Inter club matches.
On Wednesday last the over 55s team captained by Tony Wasyalocha and his team took on Strandhill. With 3 matches away it was always going to be tough and so it proved with despite Jim McLoughlin and Kevin Conlon winning an away point, Strandhill snuck an away point to win the tie 3-2. Well done to Tony and his team of Jim McLoughlin, Kevin Conlon, Aiden McGoldrick, James Davey, Wilfred Burke, Martin Burke, Tony Wasyalocha, John Torsney, Eugene Carroll and Brian Waters.
Jimmy Bruen Team
Our Jimmy Bruen team captained by Dave Donavan were up against Boyle at home on Saturday last. Away the home team had the big guns at home and despite good golf being played our pairs of Niall Keirns and Gerald Tailly and James Fallon And Peter Carr were up against it and Boyle won the home games. At home Dave Dovanan and Niall Walsh got the first point for Castledargan with a 4&3 win. Thing looked bleak with the pair of Benny Duignan and Fergal McLoughlin 3 down with 3 to play but the boys rallied and won 16, 17 and 18 to level the match and take it down the 19th and 20th which were halved. On the 21st hole Benny and Fergal won their match with a great win to make the tie 2-2. Last up was Kevin Conlon and Chris Kilcullen and after the 18th their match was all square also and up the 19th they also went which they won to win and give Castledargan a 3-2 win. Well done Dave and team on their win.
National 4ball inter club
Again on Saturday was the second of our team matches. Home again captained by Niall Walsh and this time to strokestown, the team that knocked us out the last two years. Away first up was Wilfred Burke and Eugene Carroll but the home paid won in the latter stage of their match. At home the in form pair of Tony Wasyalocha and Martin Burke won their match 5&4 to level the tie 1-1. Away another in form pair, Donal McLoughlin and Adrian McGoldrick again took the spoils with an away point but the match was again level when Second out Paul McGonigle and Andy Kearns came up against a strong away pair. Scores 2-2. Last up was Aiden McGoldrick and Alan Taffee and again this week rookie Alan was in the crunch match and again the pair delivered with a 3&2 win to win the tie 3-2. Castle Dargan Mens Golf Club notes - 1st November 2016
The Aurivo sponsored winter league started the weekend last and a large number of entrants again this year. Players can play on either the Saturday or the Sunday and is v par. It was great to see a large turnout for the 9.30 shotgun start waiting to head out so if any player looking to pair up can meet at the golf shop on a Sunday morning. Results will be kept up to date after a few weeks in. It's not to late to enter just contact the golf shop. It was also notable the amount of work continuing on the Course with things going ahead of schedule and it was great to see the amount of sand everywhere on the course which will only improve the course even more. Well done to all involved on making great strides to improve the golf course.
The club would like to congratulate our Vice Captain Ray O'Grady and his wife Leona on the recent birth of their daughter Sadhbh. It will be great to see Ray Back on the course beady eyed in the coming weeks.
